The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning – the premier international organization dedicated to the scholarship of teaching and learning — seeks leaders who are original thinkers, hard workers, and esteemed colleagues in the profession.  ISSOTL’s officers establish new directions for this organization while managing ongoing activities and services of the Society.

The ISSOTL Leadership and Elections Committee invites qualified members to nominate or self-nominate  for the following positions:

  • President-elect
  • Vice President (US)

Officers of ISSOTL carry out responsibilities according to ISSOTL’s bylaws, participate in each ISSOTL conference (with their own funding) during their term of office, and help the Society increase and serve its membership.  Terms of office are three years for Vice Presidents and three years for the President (1 year as President-elect, one as President and one as Past President).  Those officers elected in Spring 2015 will begin their terms on July 1, 2015.

Note: it is an expectation of the Society that candidates running for the Presidency will have previously held a leadership role within the organisation.

………………………..

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATIONS

To submit a nomination to the Leadership and Elections Committee, which will create a ballot for each position, please submit the following information:

  • contact information of the nominee (address, e-mail address, phone number)
  • position for which the person is suggested as a candidate, and  a brief rationale for this
  • your name, institution, title, and contact information

CANDIDATES will then be asked to submit a statement of no more than 750 words to outline their suitability for the position and their priorities in this role, should be they be elected. Their statement should include:

  • Rationale for candidacy
  • Evidence of individual scholarly work on teaching and learning;
  • Past experience in organizational leadership;
  • Recognition and respect within the scholarship of teaching and learning community;
  • Ability to work well with a team;
  • Range of contacts in higher/tertiary education, etc.
  • Response to the question:  what would you see as your priorities within the Society over the next three years?
  • A short CV (2 pages maximum)

Nominee names and statements will be posted on the ISSOTL website at the opening of the ballot.

The ballot count is supervised by the returning officer (Past President) who acts on behalf of the Leadership and Elections Committee.  Election results are ratified by the Board of Directors before a public announcement of the results is made.
