SOTL in the South and a Tribute to Brenda Leibowitz

The second issue of SOTL in the South was published at the end of April. SOTL in the South “is an online open source and peer-reviewed journal dedicated to fostering dialogue and research on teaching and learning in higher education in the global South, or about the global South.”

We’re sad to share that the founder of the journal and editor-in-chief, Professor Brenda Leibowitz, unexpectedly and suddenly passed away on Thursday, 26 April 2018.

According to the University of Johannesburg:

“Prof Brenda Leibowitz took up the Chair in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at UJ in 2014. This was a groundbreaking initiative, being the first Chair of its kind in the country. The focus of the Chair was to advance teaching and learning scholarship at UJ and in the higher education sector, and Brenda was the obvious choice for the Chair.”

HELTASA has posted a tribute to Professor Leibowitz, sharing more about her noteworthy scholarship and her dedicated work towards social justice in higher education. She will be greatly missed.
