Information Literacy Interest Group
The Information Literacy Interest Group brings together those working in higher education interested in information literacy. The group uses a constructivist and sociocultural definition of information literacy as “the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning” (ACRL, 2016). The group encourages all educators – including faculty, academic developers, instructional designers, administrators, and librarians – who are interested in advocating for information literacy skills among learners to join. The mission of the Information Literacy Interest Group is to further the awareness and highlight the impact of information literacy as a discipline through collaborative advocacy and research projects that span within and across disciplinary boundaries and international borders.
