Project Lead: Lucinda Bromfield
Academic failure and fear of failure have been linked to further failures and disengagement, anxiety, lack of resilience and adaptability, poor mental health, and reduced well-being. This project aims to raise awareness of the impact of failure and fear of failure on learning and life choices, and to develop the scholarship of learning and teaching in this area, aiming to learn from the diversity of voices that ISSOTL encompasses.
The project’s goals include:
- Investigating failure and fear of failure from the student’s perspective.
- Investigating the differences and similarities of these student perspectives across disciplinary boundaries and international borders.
- Creating effective methods and models of learning and teaching which challenge and lessen students’ fear of failure.
- Creating effective methods and models of learning and teaching that support students who have experienced failure.
The ultimate aim of the project is to publish a book of case studies showing how students are supported with failure and fear of failure in different disciplines and different cultures, as well as exploring how students from different disciplines and cultures have different views on and experiences of academic failure.
