Information for Presenters

ISSOTL Conference Pedagogy

Please refer to the ISSOTL Conference Pedagogy guide for more information about the ISSOTL approach to sharing knowledge.

General Instructions

We would like to make the conference as accessible as possible for everyone. We would therefore like to ask you kindly to think about making your poster, workshop, panel or presentation as accessible as possible, and keep this in mind. For instance:

  • Please make sure to include everyone in the conversation;
  • If you are presenting, please make sure to use your microphone well and speak at a normal pace – not everyone present is an English native speaker;
  • Please use a white background behind your text(s) on your printed materials for optimal readability, and do not place text over images;
  • Please choose font color black for printed materials;
  • Please use 12 as a minimum font size for printed materials.
  • An HDMI connection is available in every presentation room
  • Bring your own adapter and laptop

More information on the specific sessions can be found below.

Preconference Workshops – 3-hour sessions

  • While there will be support staff should you have a problem, there will be no additional facilitator for your session. Please make sure your workshop begins and ends on time.
  • Your session should offer an opportunity for interaction and hands-on work on a question, topic, or method, allowing for multiple perspectives to enter the conversation.
  • Wifi, screen, podium, wired microphone, and a projector will be available in your presentation room.
  • The room will be set with round tables with 8 chairs per table.
  • If you have other requirements or questions, please email issotl24@issotl.com.

Workshops – 1.5-hour sessions

  • While there will be support staff should you have a problem, there will be no additional facilitator for your session. Please make sure your workshop begins and ends on time.
  • Your session should offer an opportunity for interaction and hands-on work on a question, topic, or method, allowing for multiple perspectives to enter the conversation.
  • Wifi, screen, podium, wired microphone, and a projector will be available in your presentation room.
  • The room will be set with round tables with 8 chairs per table.
  • If you have other requirements or questions, please email issotl24@issotl.com.

Panel Discussions: 1-hour sessions

  • While there will be support staff should you have a problem, there will be no additional facilitator or moderator for your session. It will be the responsibility of the panel to guide discussion and ensure the session begins and ends on time.
  • Because panels need to reserve at least 40 minutes for discussion among panelists and audience members, our suggested format for panels is for each speaker to introduce themselves and their topic in a 5-10 minute segment as time allows and then ensure adequate time remains for discussion.
  • Wifi, screen, 3 wired table-top microphones, and a projector will be available in your presentation room.
  • The presentations are held in rooms with a theater setup consisting of rows of chairs.
  • If you have other requirements or questions, please email issotl24@issotl.com.

Paper Presentations: 1 hour or 1.5-hour sessions, 2-3 papers per room

  • Papers will be grouped by common themes, with 2 paper presentations scheduled for each room during 60-minute sessions and 3 papers scheduled for each room during 90-minute sessions.
  • Because of the enormous interest in the conference and because we want to give as many people as possible a chance to present at ISSOTL23, presentations may last a maximum of 30 minutes. Within these 30 minutes you will have 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes for questions. This will be strictly enforced to leave room for discussion in the sessions.
  • A moderator will play the role of timekeeper during your session and will make sure that everyone has their allotted 30 minutes.
  • To ensure that each presenter has the full amount of time to present, please arrive 5 minutes before the start of the concurrent session to avoid being disruptive to other presenters and to set up your presentation in the room.
  • Wifi, screen, podium, wired microphone, and a projector will be available in your presentation room.
  • The presentations are held in rooms with a theater setup consisting of rows of chairs.
  • If you have other further questions, please email to  issotl24@issotl.com.

Poster Session (90 minutes)

  • We will supply push pins/thumbtacks and posterboards to hang your poster on.
  • We recommend a poster size of 5 x 3 feet (152 x 91 cm), with a horizontal orientation.
  • Font should be readable from 1-1.5 m (3-5 feet) away (24 point as a font size at least).
  • Handouts/QR codes with additional or more detailed information are welcome.
  • In addition to the poster session scheduled in the conference program, poster presenters will be able to add their poster to the virtual poster hall in Oxford Abstracts. Guidelines will be sent in October.
  • Plan to bring your poster with you. Onsite poster printing will not be possible.
  • If you have other further questions, please email to issotl24@issotl.com.
